Design thinking is often talked about in relation to innovation, but at MLC, it is put into action. This process is used to systematically extract and apply human centred techniques to solve a problem. It is one of the ways we prepare our students for the future of work.

We equip them with contemporary learning skills, the ability to collaborate and the opportunity to think around corners to answer challenges. We support our girls to express their authentic selves, understand their unique value and worth, and consider how they can use that information to inform their purpose and impact on the world.

The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not going anywhere – it is going everywhere. That is why MLC embraces innovation and the potential it holds to enhance the learning and lives of our students. Guided by expert staff who are pioneering the space, we are excited by the potential of AI tools to enrich learning and teaching, student wellbeing, agency and creativity.

To prepare our girls for their purposeful futures, it is vital to not only understand the use of these tools and their impact, but also strategies and practices to ensure they use them safely, ethically and effectively. MLC is committed to discussing, reviewing and refining our policies and practices as our experience and knowledge of these tools grows.

Our staff have been exploring how new technologies can be harnessed safely and effectively to enhance learning now and into the future. Training opportunities and action research projects have also been developed to ensure we have a full and shared understanding of AI tools such as ChatGPT in learning and teaching.

Micro-Credentialling

What is a Micro-Credential?

Micro-credentials are one of the fastest growing ideas in education. The idea is simple: you demonstrate a very specific skill and then you receive a digital badge certifying that micro-credential. This then becomes part of your personal file, which you can share with potential employers on platforms like LinkedIn and include in your CV.

The aim of introducing micro-credentials at MLC is to give students further opportunities that go beyond the traditional curriculum. Micro-credential courses can be developed to align with the girls’ passions, assisting students to have a wider range of skills and be more familiar with how to upskill themselves in ways that employers, industry and tertiary institutions are looking for.

How are Mico-Credentials Changing Education?

In today’s job market, having a degree is not enough. Upskilling is seen as a continuous means of staying competitive. Micro-credentialing will become a big part of what happens in workplaces of the future. Being able to complete short skill-based courses not only helps people stay relevant but these courses can be developed quickly to respond to the demands of the time. Just look at the changes everyone has had to take on with COVID-19 and how quickly we have all had to pivot and flexibly adapt to new work expectations and conditions.

We offered 10 courses in 2021 and expanded significantly in 2022. They are offered to girls in Years 9-11. These courses include, but are not limited to:
