MLC Comes Alive with Culture to Celebrate Languages Week

Share

As one of the only Colleges in Western Australia to offer students a choice of four languages to study, Methodist Ladies’ College came alive with culture to celebrate Languages Week.

MLC are committed to developing global learners, with a focus on celebrating all cultures and truly reflecting the vibrant mix of nationalities that are present in WA.

MLC students begin their language learning journey in the Junior Years, studying Mandarin as young as nine-months-old, before having the choice to study German, French, Chinese or Japanese in the Senior Years.

As one of the very few Colleges in the State to offer students a choice of four languages (other than English) to study, MLC believe the value of learning a second language extends beyond the classroom.

The Languages Week festival began on Monday 27 February, kicking off with an International Soccer Tournament, followed by fragrant food stalls, origami workshops, Eiffel tower building and an artistic competition themed, ‘Get ready for the world – learn a language’.

The students enjoyed tasting special foods and trying exciting activities, which sparked fresh conversations and forged new perspectives,” said Principal, Ms Rebecca Clarke.

This year marked the long-awaited return of Exchange Language programs at MLC, with two students who already travelled to Germany to fully immerse in their chosen language and culture.

Later this year, MLC French and Japanese students will also have the opportunity to participate in student exchange programs in Reunion Island and Japan, to visit the College’s Sister Schools.

On campus, MLC provide specialist language teachers, and engage other native speaking assistants to enable students to converse one-on-one in their chosen language.
