Beginning her MLC journey in Year 5, Imogen quickly discovered a supportive and nurturing environment that would shape her growth. “Something that stood out to me was the extra care each of my teachers took for their students. At MLC, there is a focus on the individual, which led to me coming out of my shell and trying new things.”
This support from her teachers continued as she moved into the Senior Years, especially when it came time to select her pathway for Years 11 and 12. “My MLC teachers helped guide and encourage me when I doubted my abilities providing me an outside perspective which helped me navigate the overwhelming process of selecting courses.”
Imogen decided to follow an ATAR pathway as it aligned with her strengths and was the best route to gain entrance into her dream university course – a Bachelor of Science / Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University.
“I have always grown up surrounded by animals whether that be our own family pets, livestock at the farm or fostering litters of kittens. By Year 10 when I had to select my placement for work experience, I realised that I wanted to pursue Vet as a career.”
However, it was important for Imogen to balance her studies with her passions, keeping herself busy with co-curriculars throughout school, especially in Years 11 and 12. “Over the years I have participated in almost every co-curricular activity at MLC. Specifically, in Years 11 and 12 I played in MLC’s Symphony Orchestra and rowed, as well as directed House Drama. In Year 11, I was fortunate enough to go to Nationals for rowing with MLC since it was hosted in Perth.”
Imogen’s passion and drive for rowing saw her excel in the sport at both the IGSSA and State levels. Rowing with the Fremantle Rowing Club during the pennant season and in Year 12, she was proudly selected to represent WA in the Pathway VIII+ which culminated in a regatta in Penrith.
Living by her mantra “work hard play hard”, Imogen balanced her studies and co-curricular activities by treating each as a break from the other. “When I row, I give myself a brain break, when I’m studying, I’m giving my body a rest, and when I practice my instrument, I’m given an emotional outlet. Rowing and Orchestra also served as my social outlet where I was surrounded by my friends.”
