Hear Her Story: Harmony Bellotti

Share

Joining the MLC Boarding House in Year 7 from the small coastal town of Carnarvon, Harmony credits both her boarding and schooling experiences for preparing her for the next chapter of her life.

“Reflecting on my MLC journey from Years 7 to 12, I realise how impactful those six years were. Coming from a small town, being a Boarder was truly a privilege that provided me with countless opportunities. The supportive environment encouraged personal growth and academic excellence, allowing me to discover my passions and develop valuable skills.”

She recalls a pivotal point in Year 10 where she realised what she wanted to pursue post-school: “I always had an interest in helping others but wasn’t sure of the specific path to take. My perspective changed after attending a careers expo. The experience solidified my decision to gain qualifications in Community Services.”

Still undecided though on whether she wanted to go to university or complete an apprenticeship, Harmony selected a General Pathway to keep her choices flexible. Complementing her pathway with one ATAR course and a VET Certificate enabled her to keep her options open to both a tertiary education and potential traineeship opportunities.

Throughout her time at MLC, Harmony continued to support others and positively contribute to her Boarding family. Serving as Yalari Captain in Year 11, her passion for advocating for the Yalari Scholarship students shone through. In Year 12, she also joined the Heather Lamont Festival for Olympia House, coached the Years 7/8 AFL team, as well as playing herself, and was part of the Boarding Executive, where she represented the MLC Boarding students’ interests and voices.

Taking all that she has learnt, Harmony is currently completing a traineeship at The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), which will allow her to gain a Certificate III in Government. With aspirations of contributing to her community, she believes this placement will help with her career goals and ambitions.

“I want to be a leader and role model, not just in my local community but in my Indigenous community. I will continue building my qualifications so I can use them in small regional towns, addressing specific needs and providing support and resources to help both children and adults succeed in their lives.”

Looking back, Harmony acknowledges that no path is ever easy but having a supportive environment and people in your corner makes the world of difference.

“A key highlight from my time at MLC was my entire Year 12 experience. It really made me appreciate how fortunate I was to attend such a great school and to have formed lifelong friendships in the Boarding House. Overall, my time at MLC shaped me into a more resilient and well-rounded individual, preparing me for the future with a sense of purpose and excitement.”
