Hear Her Story: Georgia Pegrum

Share

Starting at MLC in Year 5, Georgia was eager to begin her journey at a school with such a rich sense of community and wide range of opportunities. Fast forward to the end of Year 12 and she can confidently say that her time at MLC was nothing short of memorable.

When selecting her Year 11 and 12 courses, she decided to pursue the ATAR Pathway to keep her options for the future wide open. This meant choosing a mix of subjects that challenged her academically while allowing her to explore her passions. She picked English, Mathematics Methods, Chemistry, Physics and French – a combination that not only stretched her capabilities but that she knew would give her the best foundation for her future aspirations.

“It was quite overwhelming at the start because there were so many different course options and pathways. But during Year 10, we had course counselling meetings with our parents and the Careers Coordinator to help us with our choices which was very helpful.”

Outside of the classroom, Georgia served as Arts Prefect and was deeply involved in co-curricular activities. From College Productions to Music, The Arts and Sports, Georgia made sure to fully immerse herself in school life.

“I loved anything Arts related, but especially all the Heather Lamont Festivals (a day dedicated to celebrating The Arts at MLC) and being part of the 2024 College Production of Matilda the Musical Jnr. It was so much fun bringing the production to life and the cast was like a family. I will really miss that next year.”

Looking back at her time at MLC, Georgia is grateful for the sense of the community that was present in every corner of the College. “I really enjoyed my MLC experience, especially in Years 11 and 12. I loved participating in all the co-curricular activities that were on offer and the MLC sense of community.”

Since graduating from MLC, Georgia has begun studying at the University of Western Australia where she is completing a Juris Doctor (law degree) via a Bachelor of Science. Combining her passion for law with a strong interest in scientific inquiry, this unique path will allow Georgia to develop a multifaceted understanding of both legal principles and scientific knowledge, preparing her for a diverse range of career opportunities.

Reflecting on her own experience, Georgia has one main piece of advice for those heading into their final year of school that she hopes resonates: “Give everything a try and make the most of all the opportunities there are at MLC. Year 12 goes by fast, so enjoy it while you can.”
