Private Kindergarten

Our co-educational private Kindergarten in Perth, WA is a wonderful extension of the MLC Early Learning Centre (ELC). The ELC is located on MLC’s one central campus in the delightful suburb of Claremont. Children experience a curriculum working to a timetable each day, preparing them for full-time school once compulsory attendance begins in Pre-Primary. In a fun, engaging and supportive environment, we set your child up for the next steps in their learning. For girls who continue their education at MLC, this ensures that their transition to the Junior Years is made as easy as possible.

Welcome to our Kindergarten in Perth, WA

Our spacious Kindergarten areas are purpose-built for four- to five-yearold boys and girls. We have two Kindy classrooms within our ELC called Maali (‘swan’ in Noongar) and Djidi-Djidi (‘willy wagtail’ in Noongar). With a one to 10 staff to student ratio in each room, social and emotional development are fundamental to our Perth Kindy’s pedagogy.

Creating Learners for Life

The MLC Kindergarten program is the bridge between Early Learning and the Junior Years. Our degree qualified Early Childhood Teachers are well-equipped to prepare your Kindergartener for future schooling at MLC. They design and plan a diverse and dynamic curriculum to stimulate minds through multi-sensory learning experiences.

Following the Early Years Learning Framework (ELYC) and WA’s Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines for Perth schools, our Kindergarten develops foundational pre-numeracy and pre-literacy skills. These set children on the path to lifelong learning success. Specialist subjects such as Music, Dance, Mandarin, Drama and Physical Education acknowledge the importance of social and physical wellbeing as well.

Fostering early literacy is an important part of developing the whole child. Weekly trips to the Lorna Dickson Library on our school campus not only promote a love of books and reading, but also provide the opportunity for our children to get to know the beautiful grounds and see older students working. These visits are facilitated and timetabled by the College Library staff and Kindergarten students are encouraged to borrow a new book each week to take home. Early literacy approaches like this support the development of foundational skills in Kindy and are a pre-curser to improved reading, writing, communicating and comprehension later in life.

Our Kindergarteners also participate in the following:

  • Incursions, such as MLC’s Bush and River School
  • Excursions, such as their annual visit to AQWA
  • A Buddy System with our MLC Junior Years and Senior Years students
  • Visits from Duke of Edinburgh students in the Senior Years
  • Activities with the rest of the wider campus, including assemblies and Chapel services
  • Visits to St Louis Retirement Village

Immunisation Requirements

Western Australia has immunisation laws that help to better protect our children and the wider community from vaccine-preventable diseases. In line with the WA Government regulations, when you enrol your child in our Early Learning Centre or Kindergarten, you will need to provide your child’s current Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement, which shows your child is up-to-date with all the scheduled immunisations (according to the National Immunisation Program) for their age. This Statement must be no more than two months old. Without an up-to-date immunisation status or an exemption, children cannot be enrolled in our Early Learning Centre or Kindergarten. If you would like to know more about the immunisation requirements, obtaining an AIR Immunisation History Statement or how to access immunisation services go to HealthyWA.

I understand, as per WA's Health Department regulations, that my child needs to be fully immunised to be enrolled at MLC Early Learning.
