High-Performance Sporting Pathways

At MLC, we believe sport plays a vital role in supporting student wellbeing and developing essential life skills such as resilience, confidence and initiative. Research shows that girls who stay engaged in sport are more likely to take on leadership roles and experience professional success later in life. That’s why we’re committed to fostering sporting opportunities that promote both participation and performance from Junior Years right through to graduation.

At MLC, we don’t just want girls to play sport — we want them to stay in sport. And to do this, they need to be supported every step of the way. Through our High-Performance Sporting Pathways, student-athletes can access personalised support, high-performance development opportunities and financial assistance to help them pursue sporting excellence while thriving academically.

Emerging Athlete Program (EAP)

The Emerging Athlete Program (EAP) supports students in Years 9–12 who are competing at a state or national level and striving to balance the demands of high-performance sport with their academic studies. Designed for ambitious student-athletes who value a holistic education, the program provides personalised support to help them thrive both in and beyond the sporting arena.

Led by the MLC Director of Sport, the EAP includes individual performance planning, academic support, mentoring opportunities, strength and conditioning guidance, athlete education workshops, and access to expert wellbeing resources. Through a tailored approach, students are supported to pursue their sporting goals while remaining connected, supported and successful at school.

High-Performance Sports Prizes

To support our students who compete at an elite level and inspire them to continue their sporting journey beyond school, MLC awards High-Performance Sports Prizes each year. Established with the support of the College and our generous donor community, the prizes recognise students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and achievement in their chosen sport.

The prizes help offset the costs associated with high-level training and competition, including travel, coaching and equipment, enabling talented student-athletes to continue pursuing opportunities at state, national and international levels while balancing their educational commitments. They form part of MLC’s commitment to supporting sporting excellence and empowering students to realise their full potential both on and off the field.
