Celebrating Unique Passions at MLC Boarding
Wednesday, 27 January 2021
Joining the Boarding family at Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC), Claremont was an opportunity for Eloise to find her passion and make friends for life. Year 11 student Eloise began her journey at MLC at the start of 2020 and hasn’t looked back.
In 2019, Eloise was awarded an MLC Boarding Scholarship, which is one of a variety of scholarships offered at MLC. An MLC education is centred on a holistic approach, which focuses on our girls’ academic needs, pastoral care and wellbeing, and offers amazing leadership opportunities.
Deciding to send your daughter to boarding school can be a challenging decision, but Eloise’s Mum Belinda knew MLC was exactly where her daughter needed to be.
Belinda said: “Boarding has been Eloise's dream. She is a smart and resilient kid. Eloise has always had a plan and MLC has given her direction and opportunities.”
At MLC, students are supported and encouraged by staff to pursue their personal passions. When Director of Boarding Jennifer McGillivray discovered Eloise’s interest in Police Rangers, she was determined to find her a programme in Perth.
“Being a part of the Police Rangers Program at Police and Community Youth Centre in Subiaco has given me a sense of identity and I am grateful to the House Mothers for the opportunity to do this,” said Eloise.
Our dedicated team of boarding staff are committed to ensuring our girls can develop their interests in any area they choose. Not only do we want students to pursue their passions, but we also want them to find happiness and joy along the way.
“I want every student to feel understood and able to freely communicate their needs, which is made possible by the bespoke nature of our Boarding House.” Ms McGillivray said.
As well as being involved in the Police Rangers Program, Eloise has also enjoyed many areas of boarding life at MLC. This includes spending time with her boarding sisters on the weekend. Whether its walking to the Claremont Shopping Precinct or enjoying our amazing facilities on campus, including our state-of-the-art Sports Centre and MLC/Christ Church Grammar School Aquatic Precinct, there is always something fun to do.
While reflecting on the last year at MLC, Eloise said: “Before starting at MLC, I was nervous that I might not make new friends and thought I might struggle being away from family. Now I love it. I love spending time with my Boarding sisters and have made great friends.”
MLC has been offering girl-centric education for more than a century and is a community that celebrates diversity and promotes excellence in all areas of life.
Scholarship applications for the 2022 school year are now open and close on Sunday 7 February 2021.
A number of music, academic and boarding scholarships are available to applicants who would start between Years 5 and 10 in the 2022 school year.
