CLASS OF 2015 REACH THE HEIGHTS

Friday, 12 February 2016

MLC’s 2015 graduates have received a glowing report card in their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) exams. Most of the 96 girls who sat the exams to gain an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) are eligible to enrol in universities in WA and beyond.

The results include:

  • 12.5 per cent achieved an ATAR 99 or above (meaning they are in the top one per cent of students across WA);
  • 40 per cent achieved an ATAR of 95 or above (meaning they are in the top five per cent of students across WA);
  • 56 per cent achieved an ATAR of 90 or above (meaning they are in the top 10 per cent of students across WA); and
  • 85 per cent achieved an ATAR of 80 or better, placing them in the top 20 per cent of WA students.

A score of 80 is the minimum ATAR requirement for gaining entry into most of the Group of Eight Universities across Australia, including UWA. In addition, 97 per cent achieved an ATAR that would provide entry into one of Western Australia’s five universities. The median ATAR for MLC was 91.3; this compares to the State median ATAR of 79.1.

We also celebrate the exemplary course performances in WACE, including one General Exhibition, three Course Exhibitions (for Food Science and Technology, Materials Design and Technology and Psychology), 13 Certificates of Distinction and 18 Certificates of Commendation.

MLC has again been listed in the annual School Curriculum and Standards Authority Year 12 Student Achievement Data as one of the top performing schools in 12 Stage 3 courses (that is, 2015 schools with the highest performing students in Stage 3 of each WACE course): Accounting and Finance, Applied Information Technology, Chemistry, English, Human Biological Science, Japanese: Second Language, Literature, Marine and Maritime Studies, Modern History, Physics, Politics and Law and Psychology. It is worth noting that individual schools with a course cohort of 10 or fewer students are not eligible for consideration as top performing schools. In 2015 at MLC, 17 Stage 3 courses were in this category.
