YEAR 4 TEACHER
From day one at MLC I felt I had become a part of something special. I instantly felt connected to the community. My absolute favourite part of being a teacher is building a positive family-oriented culture within, and outside, the classroom where we all support, inspire, encourage and challenge each other to take risks, to take a leap and to try different things. I encourage my students to appreciate that with mistakes comes an opportunity to learn, so don’t be afraid to make any. If I provide them with the right amount of support, encouragement, inspiration, determination and a desire to succeed, they can set goals and meet them. I want the girls to feel a sense of deep-seated pride which motivates them to continue setting and achieving goals.
I truly believe in the benefits of teaching students how to be resilient when faced with challenges or disappointment, through developing and having a growth mindset. A growth mindset thrives on challenge and sees failure as a heartening springboard for growth and for stretching our existing abilities. Having a growth mindset creates a passion for learning rather than a hunger for approval.
Every morning I greet each girl with a smile. Every afternoon I farewell each girl with a smile. In between these times, I strive to provide my girls with a vibrant, innovative, creative and inspirational role model, so they see what a person who loves what they do looks like, sounds like and feels like.
