Head of Sport and Health and Physical Education Teacher
My favourite thing about teaching at MLC is having the freedom to develop the many programmes that fall under the sport banner. I enjoy seeing the students improve their abilities and confidence in sport as they progress through the school. I love celebrating success when it is achieved, however big or small, and seeing the girls recognise and celebrate achievement in themselves and others. I enjoy the nurturing environment and the positive support from peers which gives the girls confidence to try things and be involved in an array of activities, which I think is paramount in education as I believe school should be a holistic experience.
I had some very strong role models in the Physical Education department when I was at school. They clearly enjoyed teaching and aimed to push the students to always strive for quality in everything they did. I was lucky to get a teacher training placement back at my old school and I really enjoyed the experience of learning from and working with my old mentors.
I started the role as Head of Sport in 2017 and my favourite moment at MLC so far has to be leading the 2019 Hockey and Netball tour to New Zealand and Fiji. It was a unique experience where the whole tour party got to experience the culture and sport in new places and enjoyed the time together growing as part of a team. Luging in Rotorua was a personal highlight, along with the A hockey team playing to such a high level and finishing the two weeks unbeaten.
