Kindergarten–Year 6 Teacher Librarian
My role is to inspire our girls to read and to find the right book for the right student. There is a strong link between reading for pleasure and academic success and so we take every opportunity to celebrate reading and stories. We have such fun during Book Week and National Simultaneous Storytime and our readers in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to showcase their abilities during the Reader’s Challenge in Book Week. Seeing the excitement in the girls as they tell me, or a friend, about a story they have just read is one of the great pleasures I regularly have.
Very few students in Western Australian schools have such open access to their school library. The Lorna Dickson Library is open all day every school day.
As well as taking pleasure in seeing the girls read, I also assist both staff and students to locate the resources they need for classroom inquiry and I help to maintain the library’s website. I am currently the President of AISWA Libraries Inc. which is a professional body which provides information and professional development for Librarians and Teacher-Librarians.
