Fundraising FAQ's

Collegians, current parents and friends of Methodist Ladies' College often ask how they can 'give' back to the school that gives them so much. One such way is to volunteer their time. Another is financial support in the way of gifts. The following frequently asked questions shed a little light on the College's current fundraising program.
Why are we fundraising? Private education is competitive; it has become more and more dictated by choice - the choice of services, facilities and resources that are available for our students. In order to maintain its high level of outcomes and fast-track the delivery of its plans for new resources and facilities, the College recognises it must adopt a more commercial focus. Fundraising is a means by which we can achieve this result sooner and the beneficiaries are our girls.
We've fundraised successfully before Fundraising initiatives deployed by the College in past years have worked well, such as the money raised for Hadley Hall. Your moral support is essential to our fundraising success.
Fees make up around 80 per cent of the College revenue After operating expenditure is accounted for, there are very little funds left to allocate to major initiatives. Without fundraising, fees (or part thereof) go someway towards paying for major projects, but our girls will not necessarily reap the benefit for sometime, if at all. By implementing a fundraising model, we can fast-track strategic projects and our girls will be the beneficiaries today and in perpetuity. The alternative to fundraising is a dramatic increase in fees for current parents.
Do other schools fundraise? Yes they do, fundraising is essential in private school revenue flow and more so as fees are increasingly required to fund ongoing education, while capital works need a voluntary additional fundraising effort in which donations are sought from all stakeholders. Our current fundraising initiative is important in terms of providing MLC girls with new and improved facilities, now and in the immediate future.
Where will the money be spent? In conjunction with the College Council, The MLC Foundation has identified five fundraising 'buckets' including a health and sports centre, swimming pool, junior school, library and technology services and scholarships. These are described in more detail in the Bequest and Giving Guide located on this website.
How can I make a difference? Fundraising is a cultural shift for Methodist Ladies' College. We trust you will support this new culture and embrace it wholeheartedly.
