Junior School K - 6

'Building Strong Foundations' is our key to unlocking the world of learning and paving the way forward where our girls can take their dreams to fruition. We want to inspire and equip our young learners by focusing our Junior School program on the traditional core subjects of: Literacy (reading, writing and oral language) and Numeracy, through the application of modern and contemporary teaching and learning approaches.

Our classrooms will be where the girls will apply skills, strategies and knowledge to learning situations through exploration, inquiry and real life contexts. The learning focus will be for the girls to consolidate and build on their skills to an independent level. This will be created by providing a warm, stimulating and nurturing classroom environment, where learning is seen as fun and interactive.

To create our vision into a reality we are working on: Developing a K-12 consistent assessment and curriculum program model with Heads of Departments, through the development of matrices in English, Mathematics, Science and Society and Environment.

Restructuring the timetable - in 2007 Junior classes will have one hour of reading, one hour writing and one hour of mathematics at least 4 times a week. Enhancing our classroom environments- through refreshing classroom spaces.

It is an exciting time for the Junior School - we have a very positive spirit and direction. We care about our young learners and are committed to providing them the tools for life!

"To learn, to desire, to know, to feel, to think, to act. This is what I want and nothing else. This is what I must try for." - Katherine Mansfield

Class sizes:

In 2008, the Kindergarten will have 20 students, Pre-Primary and Year 1 will have a maximum of 24, and in Years 2 to 6 we have a maximum of 26 girls in each class.

Your daughter's education is influenced equally by the College and your family environment. The Junior School teachers see parents as partners in the education of students and actively encourage participation in College events and in discussion.
