Boarding
The individual care and comfort of every student is our main concern at Methodist Ladies' College. The experienced and well-qualified staff are always on hand to help each boarder enjoy the special feeling of belonging to the MLC community.
Overview
Boarding has been a very special part of Methodist Ladies' College since 1907. Today, about 100 students from Year 7 to 12 live in the MLC Boarding House. The house has students from every year, a Head of Boarding and supervisors who form an effective team to provide a home-away-from-home for students from rural areas and from overseas. The College also provides short-term boarding as needed and where vacancies permit.
Students' bedrooms are comfortable with a personal area that includes study facilities. Boarders have access to the Resource Centre, with its book collection and computers, until 8pm from Monday to Thursday. The College employs its own catering staff who ensure that the excellent food they offer is well balanced. Each term, there are formal dinners with French, Thai, Indonesian, Italian or Chinese menus. Visitors are welcome during the week and on weekends. Leave arrangements are generous, within the context of a vigorous academic and sporting program.
Chaplaincy
Weekly Chapel services for boarders are conducted by the College Chaplain on Tuesday evenings. The College Chaplain is also available for special counselling and support and to answer questions on spiritual matters.
Health Care
A trained nurse is in attendance during school hours during the week and is on call for urgent matters during the weekend. In addition, a local doctor is available, as required.
Recreational Activities
The boarders' Recreation Officer provides a range of activities for boarders each weekend. A varied program is offered and students are free to choose whether or not to participate. Some activities are organised for specific Year groups, while others are open to all students. Usually two activities are held each weekend including socials, movie and video nights, Year group dinners, surfing, ice skating, sporting and social events, river cruises and picnics.
After school, boarders enjoy the sporting facilities on site which include tennis courts, large playing fields and the swimming pool.
