Walter Shepherd Resource Centre

The Walter Shepherd Resource Centre is the College Senior School library. It functions over two levels.

Offices of the Information Services Department and the Technology Help Desk are also conveniently situated within the Resource Centre. WSRC staffs provide services beyond its walls, using the MLC Intranet as a major access point.

The WSRC houses not only a variety of print and non-print collections of resources but information and communication technology facilities both for individual and class use.

Did you know you can use MLC Intranet sites for online information and support at school or from home?

These include:
1. The Information Gateway: Your Virtual Library - quality information sources on your computer.
2. The Resource Centre site - all the services and support you'd expect of the real WSRC and its staff - and more!

How do students access their files?

At school: Login on any computer - open the web browser.

From home:
1. Follow the School Portal link at the top of the Home page of the MLC web site www.mlc.wa.edu.au to access the Intranet and personal email and network files.

2. When the login box appears, enter:

User Name: ID number
Password: Your network password

For the most up-to-date information, visit the WSRC section on the Intranet.

Hours

The Walter Shepherd Resource Centre is open throughout the day including Recess and Lunchtime.

Monday - 8.00am - 6.00pm
Tuesday - 8.00am - 6.00pm
Wednesday - 8.00am - 6.00pm
Thursday - 8.00am - 6.00pm
Friday - 8.00am - 4.00pm

After hours (4:00pm to 6:00pm) all entry to the WSRC is through the upper level. All students must sign in and out using the After Hours Attendance File at the Circulation Desk (RC 2).

Information Resources

A wide range of information resources are available both physically and virtually - for use at school or at home.

Physical collections include:
Video Recording Collection, Chart Collection, Equipment.
Non-Fiction (including text, sound recordings, CD ROM software, realia etc) , Fiction, Senior Fiction, Non Fiction Narratives, Picture Books, Reference, Teachers' Reference, Periodicals, Vertical file, Exam Preparation, Careers & Tertiary Information.

Virtual sources can be accessed through the catalogue (InformatifSearch) and the Information Gateway on the College Intranet. They include:
- Catalogued web sites (on InformatifSearch)
- Online databases including Encyclopaedias, Periodicals, News Services and a range of useful reference tools.
- ClickView digital video library
- Free Internet

N.B. Students are encouraged to use quality resources provided by the College should be used in preference to the free Internet and to carefully evaluate the validity of all information they find.

How do students find and use the information resources they need?
The full version of the College Catalogue, InformatifSearch is available on all WSRC computers to help you locate College and on-line resources. The Web version of InformatifSearch is available via the Intranet.
