CENTENARY BUILDING
A significant building for all members of the College Community, the Centenary Building currently provides a home for our boarders, a place for spiritual worship in our Chapel and offices for the administration team of the College.
CHAPEL
The College Chapel boasts some of the finest craftsmanship in wood, stone and glass. The detail of the vaulted ceiling and chapel pews, the stained glass and stone work create a warmth and beauty for spiritual worship.
JUNIOR SCHOOL
In February 1939, Barclay House, the new Methodist Ladies' College Junior School, was opened by the President of the Methodist Conference, Rev A J Barclay. The building consisted of two rooms, one of which was to be the Kindergarten and the other an Art Room. Today the Junior School is home to over 300 girls.
GERTRUDE WALTON DRAMA CENTRE
Fondly known as the 'gee dub' (GW) this building was the original home for the College Library. Now it is home to the Theatre Arts Department where its breath taking views of the river provide inspiration for our budding performers.
CONNELL HOUSE
Connell House is home to the Mathematics and LOTE (Languages other than English) Departments. Named after Principal Maud Connell (1908-1913), Connell House enjoys magnificent views of the Swan River.
WSRC
The WSRC is home to the College real and virtual information and literature collections and technology resources. Throughout the history of the College, Principals have always held a strong vision for independent learning and that the 'library' would be a core resource. "Some day I hope the school will provide a special library room in which reading and research can be done… I have dreams of such a room." - MISS GERTRUDE WALTON, PRINCIPAL'S REPORT, SPEECH NIGHT 1938.
In 1972 the Walter Shepherd Resource Centre was opened. "In using the name 'Research (resource) Centre' for the new library, the School wished to emphasise the trend towards 'pupil discovery' as a virtually essential part of the learning process." - TAKEN FROM THE OPENING ADDRESS BY MR SHEPHERD, PRINCIPAL ON 30 MAY 1972.
HADLEY HALL
This state-of-the-art auditorium is host to local, national and international performances. Seating 750 guests, the College entertains our Community with annual theatre and music performances. The building was named after a previous Principal, Dr Geoff Hadley.
LANGSFORD HOUSE
Once home to boarders, this building is now used for Visual Arts, Home Economics and Outdoor Education and is purpose-designed for these popular curriculum areas.
SUMNER HOUSE
Sumner House was refurbished in 1998 and is home to the curriculum Departments of Media Studies, English, Society and Environment and our Pastoral Care Team of Counsellors and the Chaplain. The flexible and solar passive design of this building provides a footprint for future classrooms.
ARCHIVES
Established in 1992, the Archive Collection is a valuable resource for students with a range of primary and documentary material. The students respond enthusiastically to historical material that is relevant to their own experience. It provides the opportunity for them to see themselves as part of a long tradition, to see the contributions and achievements of previous MLC students and to understand and appreciate the traditions and values which have developed over time.
