Men of MLC fun day a winner!

The first House Cup event organised by the Men of MLC was held at the College on Sunday 3 May proved to be a huge success.

More than 200 MLC dads and daughters started the day on hands and knees playing the farmyard game, warmed up with pass-the-ball races, and took part in team activities such as sack races, parachute, earth-ball, tug-o-war, dodge-ball and skipping.

House points were awarded for stamina, effort, ability and style, particularly for dads 'gracefully' falling down in the sack race!

Despite fierce competition from all houses, Olympia won the inaugural Men of MLC House Cup. Congratulations to Olympia dads and daughters on their win and to everyone who took part and made the event a success.

Special thanks go to all those who made the event happen, particularly the indefatigable Mark White and his Men of MLC volunteers, the Life Be in It team, MLC teachers and CRO staff, the MLC Physical and Health Education Department for their fantastic effort.

Thanks also to the entertainment - Band with No Name (MLC students Rosie Taylor, Katie Campbell and Vanessa Gunner), George Kingsley and The Sneaky Weasel Gang who rocked the Great Court!

The event raised $4,000 and increased Men of MLC membership to over 200. We welcome all MLC dads and father-figures who are interested in joining Men of MLC. For more information, email paulkingsley@bigpond.com

Growing from strength to strength

On behalf of the Men of MLC, I'd like to thank all who attended the inaugural Men of MLC 'Dads and Daughters' presentation recently. An audience of more than 350 MLC dads, daughters, teachers and friends listened to best-selling author of Fathering from the Fast Lane and Daughters and their Dads Professor Bruce Robinson as he exposed, questioned and motivated dads' relationships with their daughters.

Bruce clearly got his message across and judging by the number of his books which sold on the night and from feedback provided to the Men of MLC, many dads are already implementing the relationship-enhancing activities and strategies Bruce recommended.

Thanks to the success of the event and the support of the school community, Men of MLC's membership has now grown from 32 to 150 and extends our networking, reach and contact with dads and daughters in all years of the College, K to 12. Men of MLC warmly welcome all the new dads - legends, one and all - and thanks them for their show of support and enthusiasm.

Fundraising for the College is one of Men of MLC's objectives and we're pleased to report the event raised about $2500, which will be donated to the College Foundation and worthy charities. We are now actively working on the next Men of MLC event, scheduled for early May. Watch this space!

Men of MLC is a newly-established group of enthusiastic and innovative men actively working to provide opportunities for dads and other significant males to become more involved in the lives of their daughters, particularly at MLC, as well as networking opportunities for dads.
