Curriculum Overview

The learning experiences provided for students at Methodist Ladies' College add meaning, purpose and enjoyment to their lives. The College learning programs cater for a diverse range of student abilities and interests with all student work providing a balance of challenge and rigour.

In a supportive environment, each student is provided with broad-based opportunities to explore and develop her potential. She is endowed with a love of learning, confidence and preparedness to take risks as she interacts with the curriculum and the caring community of the College. The sense of belonging and of community encouraged in each student throughout the academic curriculum is interactively supported by the Pastoral Care program.

The Methodist Ladies' College curriculum reflects contemporary thinking about student learning needs and process skills which should be developed by students in order to lead successful and rewarding lives in a changing technological world. In real and carefully constructed contexts, the students are encouraged and provided with opportunities to think critically and creatively and to take responsibility for their own learning.

Development of expertise in the use of modern technologies, such as computers, is paramount to the curriculum of each of the subject areas and is made possible through the extensive resources of the College.

The educational programs for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 embrace the Overarching Statement contained in the Curriculum Framework document. This document sets out what all Western Australian students should know, understand, value and be able to do as a result of their schooling.
